    DESCRIPTION
The Type 80 Ti, rated for 80,000 rpm, is a fixed angle rotor with a tube angle of 25.5 degrees from the axis of rotation. The rotor can centrifuge up to eight tubes and is used in Beckman class F, G, H, R, and S preparative ultracentrifuges. This rotor develops centrifugal forces that can efficiently band DNA, or that can concentrate subcellular organelles, proteins, and other small particles in suspension. Up to 108 mL of gradient and sample can be centrifuged per run.
The rotor and lid are made of titanium and finished with polyurethane paint -- the rotor is black and the lid is red. The handle is red-anodized aluminum. O-rings made of Buna N rubber in the lid and handle maintain atmospheric pressure inside the rotor during centrifugation, if they are properly lubricated. Because of the weight of the rotor, drive pin are not required in the rotor drive hub cavity.
For overspeed protection, a photoelectric detector in Beckman ultracentrifuges monitors the overspeed disk on the rotor bottom and shuts down the run if speeds exceeding 80,000 rpm are detected.
