The NU-425 preserves the Class II Type B1 cabinet’s traditional role of serving as an intermediate option between recirculating and total exhaust cabinets but with a control system fit for modern applications. By exhausting air from the entire length of the back half of the work zone through slots in the back wall, this design not only allows users to continue the recommended practice of working “clean to dirty” and deep inside the work zone but also leaves the dished work surface intact to retain spills. This exhaust is powered by an external facility blower that is interlocked with the cabinet’s own motor through a redundant system to provide two layers of protection that minimize the risk of blowing air out of the cabinet should the external blower fail: cabinet exhaust is monitored by not only a mechanical pressure switch but also a differential velocity pressure-flow grid. A touch screen displays the readings from both this flow grid and a downflow sensor in the work zone at all times for the cabinet operator. Standard models meet the requirements of the respected NSF/ANSI 49 standard for biosafety cabinet.
