    Description

Here is a foreboding original US theatrical movie poster for the American International release of Gary Sherman's somewhat "underground" depiction of the horror of the underclass Raw Meat (1972). Peppered with humor from a sterling Donald Pleasance performance as a working class police detective coming up against the politically expedient Establishment in Christopher Lee (in something of a cameo), Raw Meat offers a deeply disturbing take on cancer capitalism and the desperation of the underclass it creates. In Sherman's scenario, that underclass is merely doing the only thing it can to survive, and the ruling class continues to try to suppress their wrongdoing until it literally comes to the surface.
Elegant poster romanticizes the tragic yet horrifying Tube tunnel dwellers, but I fear if they showed the real thing nobody but me and a couple of friends would have dared enter the cinema!
