  • Condition: This vintage piece is in excellent used condition. The glaze is bright and shiny. It is clean inside and outside. There are very little, very light visible use marks to the glaze. There are some tiny glaze pops from manufacturing. There is also a small unglazed spot on the inside bottom. It is not a chip and this occurred during manufacturing. There is also a small chip on the inside foot of the lid. This is glazed over so it too occurred during manufacturing. These manufacturing irregularities can be seen in the photographs. There is no post-factory damage, such as nicks, chips, cracks, crazing, hairlines, water spots, or repairs. Please see photographs.

    Description

    DESCRIPTION: For sale is a vintage 1938 UNIVERSAL POTTERIES water server pitcher with lid. This piece was first introduced in 1938 as part of their "Oven-Proof Kitchenware" line on the Carillon shape.  This is made of glazed vitrified porcelain china.  It features a high gloss blue glaze.  The inside is also glazed.  The lid is a hinged unattached design.  It is held in place by one's thumb while pouring or can be removed prior to pouring.  The spout has an ice lip.  This kitchenware piece is safe for both hot and cold conditions (no open flame).  This is a very nice art deco streamline design!
    This piece has no manufacture markings but was made by Universal Potteries of Cambridge, Ohio.  Originally this was sold with a paper label attached to the bottom.
    This pitcher is approximately 8-1/2 inches tall with the lid on and 7-3/8 inches with the lid off.  From front spout to the back handle is 7-3/4 inches.  It is 5 inches in diameter wide.  The capacity is approximately 48 ounces (3-pints).  It weighs 2 pounds 9 ounces empty.
